DPWH-8 pushes Php 43-B outlay for 2022 infra projects in E. Visayas – Manila Bulletin

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 8 has proposed a total of P43 billion allocation for infrastructure projects in 2022.

Regional Director Allan Borromeo said the regionwide proposed budget, which is higher than last year’s allocation is for the implementation of 1,246 proposed projects.

The projects, which are envisioned to significantly affect the region’s development are under the asset preservation program, network development program, bridge program, flood management program, and other convergence, and special support program of the Department.

Included in this year’s budget proposal are the allocation for construction of the Mahaplag–Hilongos Road, Tacloban bypass road extension, Storm Surge Protection: Heightened Road and Tide Embankment, Maasin Coastal Bypass Road, Access Road Leading to Pinipisakan Falls, Las Navas, Northern Samar, and Biliran Circumferential Road, among others.

Meanwhile, RD Borromeo reported that of the 1,245 projects in 2021, DPWH-8 was able to implement 1,221 projects.Of these, 894 are already completed, while 327 are ongoing, and 33 under for later release (FLR) have not yet started.

According to the official, in the 2021 budget, P7.5 billion was for the construction, rehabilitation, and improvement of national roads, bypass and diversion roads; P1.5 billion for the construction, rehabilitation, widening, and improvement of 31 bridges; P3.2 billion for construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of 75 flood control structures; P6.5 billion for multi-purpose and school buildings, local roads and bridges, flood control, drainage, and water systems under the local program.

Under the convergence and special support program, the DPWH Eastern Visayas has constructed and upgraded 54.3941 lane km of access roads to designated tourism destinations, industrial trade corridors, seaports, and airports worth P1.1 billion.

They have constructed 5 projects in support of the National Security worth P165 million.

At least 196 classrooms were built and rehabilitated worth P146 million under the budget of the Department of Education (DepEd); constructed 134.59 lane km of farm to market road (FMR) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) worth P1.1 billion; and completed 4 projects for repair/rehabilitation/ upgrading of roads and bridges under Special Road fund – Motor Vehicle Users Charge (MVUC) worth P666 million.
