Over in Thailand, Mitsubishi launched the Xpander Red Edition to celebrate the brand’s 60th anniversary in the country. While we won’t be receiving that model locally, it seems Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has something different for us. Instead of red accents or dress-up parts, the automaker decided to ditch everything chrome.

Meet the 2022 Xpander Black Series.

The new Xpander Black Series gives the popular MPV a very sporty and aggressive look. Nearly all chrome bits that you would find on the vehicle have been blacked out. Up front, the grille, dynamic shield garnish, lower bumper, and fog light bezel are now in black. Along the side, the side mirrors, wheels, door handles, panel moldings are now black as well. At the rear, the lower bumper trim is finished in black to match the rest of the vehicle.

Interestingly, Mitsubishi decided to keep the badges and logos in chrome instead of giving it black treatment. No photos of the interior were provided, but assume it’s the same as what you would find on the standard Xpander GLS. Under the hood, it’s still the familiar 1.5-liter MIVEC engine that produces 105 PS and 141 Nm torque.

“The new Xpander Black Series is developed to rejuvenate excitement towards our number 1 selling MPV. The Xpander remains to be a very important product in our vehicle line up and we at MMPC are geared to consistently enhance its offerings to cater to the various demands of the market. With the black series, the Xpander presents a more sophisticated look,” said Takeshi Hara, president and CEO of MMPC.

While it does look good with the Jet Black Mica paint, the Xpander Black Series is also available in Quartz White Pearl. The 2022 Xpander Black Series retails for PHP 1,138,000, a PHP 10,000 increase over the current Xpander GLS.
